Larimar is a pectolite that is found only in the Barahona Province of the Dominican Republic. Its brilliant blue color is because of the occurrence of copper. It was given the trade name Larimar in 1974 by the man who rediscovered it. His daughters name was Larissa and the Spanish word for sea is “mar” and so the name Larimar was born.
Larimar is also called the dolphin stone and is thought to embody the elements of water and fire.
