Larimar is a pectolite that is found only in the Barahona Province of the Dominican Republic. Its brilliant blue color is because of the occurrence of copper. It was given the trade name Larimar in 1974 by the man who rediscovered it. His daughters name was Larissa and the Spanish word for sea is “mar” and so the name Larimar was born.
Larimar is also called the dolphin stone and is thought to embody the elements of water and fire. It is known to open the throat chakra and connect to the solar plexus and heart supporting peaceful communication and expression of boundaries and emotions. It is very calming and can encourage the development of emotional intelligence.
